The Trader Joe Heaux- Super Bowl Edition!

The Trader Joe Heaux- Super Bowl Edition!

I like to coin myself as The Trader Joe Heaux! Trust me it’s a good thing because I tend to go hard for TJ’s! I was recently speaking to a friend about tasty items to serve while hosting a Super Bowl party, and it inspired me to write this post. Trader Joe’s is big on providing delicious food options for any holiday, but especially for Super Bowl which happens to be so popular that Americans want the day after the bowl to become a national holiday. I wouldn’t mind an extra holiday because the ITIS from drinking and eating is real! I say all of this to encourage you to take a trip to your local TJ’s and pick up a few items to try out for yourself. Yes, you can buy most of these ingredients from your local grocery store, but the Trader Joes brand is so tasty! You must give their products a try, at least for a special occasion. I have listed a few appetizer options that will be sure to stand out, and make this year’s Super Bowl dope and tasty AF!

Pulled BBQ Chicken Sliders

What I grabbed from TJ’s:

  • Pulled BBQ Chicken Breast ($5.99)
  • Bag of 8 Mini Hamburger Buns ($1.69)
  • Organic Shredded Green & Red cabbage ($1.99)
  • Organic Siracha Ranch Dressing ($2.99)
  • Cornichons Pickles ($2.69)

What I grabbed from another grocery store:

  • 1 lemon
  • Toothpicks

You will also need:

  • Serving Platter

How to Prepare:

  • Take 2 1/2 cups of cabbage and put in a mixing bowl.
  • Add 2 tablespoons of the Siracha Ranch.
  • Squeeze in 1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice.
  • Add salt and pepper to taste, and mix.
  • Put cabbage mixture to the side.
  • Prepare the pulled chicken according to package instructions.
  • Slice each bun in half, and arrange the bottom halves of the buns on a platter.
  • Place 2-3 tablespoons of the pulled chicken on the bottom halves of buns.
  • Top each slider with a generous amount of the coleslaw mixture.
  • Instert a pickle into each top bun with a toothpick.
  • Place top bun onto slider.
  • Serve, and enjoy!

Fried Pickles

What I grabbed from TJ’s:

  • Hot & Spicy Dill Pickle Chips ($2.99)

What I grabbed from another grocery store:

  • Flour
  • Eggs
  • Italian Bread Crumbs
  • Milk
  • Oil for frying
  • Seasoning salt

You will also need:

  • Frying pan
  • Tongs

How to Prepare:

  • Preheat oil to about 370 degrees OR until it sizzles.
  • Combine all batter ingredients and stir until smooth, let sit at least 5 minutes.
  • Dab pickle slices on paper towels to dry them.
  • Place about 1/2 cup of Panko breadcrumbs in a bowl (add more as needed). (If they get wet, they don’t stick so it’s best to work in small batches.)
  • Dip each pickle slice in the wet batter and then gently toss in the bread crumbs, let sit for a minute or so, this will allow the crumbs to stick better.
  • Fry in small batches for 3-4 minutes or until brown and crispy.
  • Serve with ranch dip, and enjoy!

Totchos

What I grabbed from TJ’s:

  • Potato Tots ($2.29)
  • Hot or Mild Pico De Gallo Salsa ($2.99)
  • Sour Cream ($1.79)
  • Green Onions (1.29)
  • Fancy Shredded Mexican Blend Cheese ($3.29)
  • Can of Organic Black Beans ($1.19)
  • Spicy Taco Sauce ($2.50)
  • Taco Seasoning Mix (.79)

What I grabbed from another grocery store:

  • Cilantro
  • Jalapenos (jar or fresh)

You will also need:

  • Serving dish or bowl

How to Prepare:

  • Prepare Potato Tots according to package instructions.
  • Place tots in a serving bowl.
  • Sprinkle tots with taco seasoning mix. Season to your liking.
  • Add cheese to the hot tots first so that it can melt.
  • Top with all ingredients listed and/or a few of your own favorite items.
  • Serve and enjoy!

Last but not least, I must mention that Trader Joes has a great beer selection! All kinds of beer that will pair well with anything you serve!

Have a happy Super Bowl Sunday everyone!
